There has been a lot of talk recently about “tours of duty” in the Indian Armed Forces. And to take it further, the Cabinet Committee on Security has taken a landmark decision on 14th May, 2022 to approve the pilot scheme – ‘Agneepath’.
It will allow Indian youth, who want to be a part of the Indian Armed Forces, to enter the army through this new entry and available opportunity. Be it Indian Army, Indian Navy or Indian Air Force. For all Indian youth candidates Agneepath Sena Bharti Scheme is a central government scheme. Through Agneepath, one can serve in the combat forces and around 45,000 to 50,000 soldiers will be recruited every year for a service period of just four years.
Additional Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, Lt Gen Anil Puri said, “Today the average age is around 32 years, it will further reduce to 26 years in the coming times. This will happen in 6-7 years. To transform the armed forces into tech-savvy, modern, young what needs to be done to tap the youth potential and make them future ready soldiers?” He said that after four years of service in the Army, the resume and resume of the firefighters would be very unique and they would stand out in the crowd with their attitude, skill and timing.
What is Agneepath Scheme?
Soldiers will be recruited for 4 years in the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. Recruitment of soldiers (soldiers) in the army, sailors in the navy and airmen in the air force, those recruitments will now be under this scheme.2The remaining 25 percent of the firefighters will be appointed as permanent jawans. Its process will be decided in which ‘Agniveer’ will apply to be permanent.
Who will be recruited under Agneepath scheme? Who is this plan for?
Agneepath scheme is only for jawans. This scheme will not be applicable to officers. This scheme will be for the personnel below the rank of Service Officer. A new scheme has been brought in place of open recruitment of existing jawans. At present, apart from general duty, there is open recruitment for posts like Clerk, Store Keeper, Tradesman, Nursing Assistant. There will be no change in the existing recruitment process of soldiers in the Army, Navy and Air Force. At present, officers are appointed in the army for 10 years through short service commission, which has been increased to 14 years.
Agneepath Yojana Entry Scheme 2022: Purpose of scheme
The main objective of the central government is to launch the Indian Army Agneepath Pravesh Yojana with the aim of training the youth and deducting retirement as well as pension. The Government of India has come up with this scheme to strengthen our security forces. Selected candidates will be trained professionally and then recruited in areas like J&K border.
The most important thing to note about this recruitment is that, there will be no entrance exam for the youth. After getting selected, candidates will have to undergo training for six months and then will be inducted for three and a half years. So that they can be prepared to join the Armed Forces as a professional.

Even after completing 4 years in service, there is a chance that you can continue with the service if your performance is satisfactory then you can be retained there even after the completion of Tour of Duty. Under the plan it would be four years of service, but 25 percent of the soldiers, the best professionals, would be re-inducted as permanent soldiers. Others will be allowed to leave and given a service fund – a one-time amount of Rs. 11.71 lakh plus interest. This amount will be tax free and can be used to move ahead with any other career option in their life.
Along with this, the soldiers out of service will also be assisted in getting a place in civilian jobs after completing the tenure of 4 years. According to reports, the government is also working with corporates to talk about employment opportunities after the completion of the tenure of ‘Agnivar’.
Pay Scale Under Agneepath Scheme
Under this scheme, the annual package that the soldiers will get for the first year will be Rs 4.76 lakh and it will increase to 6.92 lakh in the fourth and final year of the term, i.e. in these four years of service, they will get an additional benefit of Rs 30,000. Starting pay, which will increase to Rs 40,000 by the end of four years of service.
Also during these service years, 30 per cent of his salary will be used under the service fund program, and the same amount will be contributed monthly by the government, plus interest thereon. This means that after completing their required four years of duty, they will get the benefit of the service fund package, under which they will get Rs 11.71 lakh as a lump sum amount and will remain tax free.
Along with this there is also a provision of life insurance cover of Rs 48 lakh for four years and Rs 1 crore will be given to the family members in case of death and this will include salary for unserved tenure.
